3-Tone Sunburst on Alder

Often labeled as the "targetburst" look, this version rounded out the Pre-CBS sunbursts.  Beginning in mid to late 1963, the center of the 'burst became much more opaque.  This change facilitated higher demand and woods with less attractive grain patterns could be utilized for the standard sunburst finish.  While the red band remains essentially the same, the dark edges and sides are completely black in this version.

The process of completing the finish changed as well.  We shoot our "targetbursts" in the same manner as the originals.  First, the bodies are sealed.  Then we apply the translucent yellow toner.  Once the red band is sprayed, we add the black edges and sides and top with clear.
